This program's purpose is to "help states develop and implement innovative programs to address the dental workforce needs of designated dental health professional shortage areas."

"Applications for this program should describe innovative approaches to addressing and measuring oral health workforce needs," and can include programs developed to expand or establish oral health services such as a school-linked dental facility.

Nine grant awards are expected, with an award ceiling of $500,000. There is a cost sharing or matching requirement.

A National Charter School Resource Center report shows how a California charter school participated in a similar grant to support its community.
