Nonprofit charter schools are eligible to obtain excess computer equipment from federal agencies through the Computers for Learning program managed by the federal General Services Administration. Nonprofit education organizations are not required to pay for the equipment, but generally are expected to cover the cost of shipping and handling. Agencies have been directed to give top priority to schools and nonprofit organizations for transferring excess computers to help make “modern computer technology an integral part of every classroom,” according to the program website.
