Next Generation Charter Schools: Meeting the Needs of Latinos and English Language Learners
Chapters
Description
The National Charter School Resource Center hosted a webinar June 6, 2012, which explored policies and practices that support English language learners (ELLs) in charter schools.
Our featured presenters were Delia Pompa, senior vice-president for programs at the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) and Feliza Licon, Director of Education at NCLR. They began by reviewing the findings and recommendations in the report that NCLR co-authored with the Center for American Progress, Next Generation Charter Schools: Meeting the Needs of Latinos and English Language Learners. Then they discussed state and federal policies affecting Latinos and ELLs in charter schools, highlighted practices and policies that support ELLs, and outlined recommendations to improve the quality of programs and services for ELLs in charter schools.
