Culturally Responsive Models for English Language Learners
Description
The National Charter School Resource Center hosted a webinar April 4, 2012, which explored the principles of culturally responsive instruction, with a focus on how to address the educational needs of English language learners (ELLs) and culturally and linguistically diverse students.
Our featured presenter was Dr. JoEtta Gonzales, the Director of the Equity Alliance at Arizona State University and a nationally recognized expert on the implementation of culturally responsive practices and policies. She reviewed the research about culturally responsive instruction and discussed how charter schools can implement culturally responsive program models that set high expectations for ELLs, connect the experiences of ELLs and their families to the curriculum, and actively engage students in their learning.
