Special Education (Minnesota State Evaluation Report)

This March 2013 report from the Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor evaluates special education delivery in the state. The proportion of public school students receiving special education has increased from 11.9 percent in 2000 to 13.6 percent in 2011, with school district state spending on special education increasing 22 percent to $1.1 billion over the same period. The report includes information about special education cooperatives, the role of charter schools, funding trends, and compliance.

This March 2013 report from the Public Impact and Thomas B. Fordham Institute offers analysis of the quality of charter schools in five cities: Albany, New York; Chicago, Illinois; Cleveland, Ohio; Denver, Colorado; and Indianapolis, Indiana. The report, using data for the 2010-2011 school year, covers comparisons with traditional public schools, the record of performance among charter schools, and issues driving charter school closure and expansion.

Student Achievement in Florida's Charter Schools: A Comparison of the Performance of Charter School Students with Traditional Public School Students

This report from the Florida Department of Education compares student achievement in charter schools and traditional public schools for 2011-2012. The analysis covers proficiency, achievement gaps and learning gains. The report includes breakouts by demographics, grade level and special education, among other categories. For the year covered, there were 518 charter schools enrolling 183,926 students or about 7 percent of the state’s public school students.
