Student Achievement in Florida's Charter Schools: A Comparison of the Performance of Charter School Students with Traditional Public School Students

This report from the Florida Department of Education compares student achievement in charter schools and traditional public schools for 2011-2012. The analysis covers proficiency, achievement gaps and learning gains. The report includes breakouts by demographics, grade level and special education, among other categories. For the year covered, there were 518 charter schools enrolling 183,926 students or about 7 percent of the state’s public school students.

Charter Schools: Guidance Needed for Military Base Schools on Startup and Operational Issues

This February 2013 Government Accountability Office report reviews the operation of charter schools on military bases, including start-up, use of federal grants, preferences for admission, facilities, and base security and access for civilian members of the school community. The report, which profiles the eight charter schools in seven states that were identified as being on bases, includes recommendations for oversight and standards development for such charter schools.
