The U.S. Department of Education and the Corporation for National and Community Service are collaborating on a $15 million grant program over three years that will "support the placement of AmeriCorps members in persistently underachieving schools across the country," according to a February 25, 2013 announcement .
School Turnaround AmeriCorps  2013 grants will go to organizations that use AmeriCorps members to engage in evidence-based interventions to increase educational achievement, high school graduation rates, and college and career readiness.
“Public or private nonprofit organizations, including faith-based and other community groups; schools or districts; institutions of higher education; cities and counties; Indian Tribes; and labor organizations are eligible to apply, along with partnerships and consortia of these entities,” according to the Department.
The program offers three types of grants: AmeriCorps State Grants, National Direct Grants, and Indian Tribe Grants. Notice of Intent to Apply is due Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 5 p.m. Eastern time.
