Three Leaders, School Named to National Charter Schools Hall of Fame

Three leaders and a school joined the National Charter Schools Hall of Fame as part of the 2012 National Charter Schools Conference in June in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Inducted into the Hall of Fame were Jim Griffin, president of the Colorado League of Charter Schools, who was recognized for his work establishing the League as “a strong model for state charter school support organizations across the country”; Eric Mahmoud, founder and CEO of Seed Academy, Harvest Preparatory School, Best Academy, and Sister Academy, all in Minnesota; Jon Schroeder, founding director of the Charter Friends National Network, who played a “major role in drafting and enacting legislation creating” the U.S. Department of Education Charter Schools Program; and City Academy High School of St. Paul, Minnesota, founded in 1992 as the nation’s first charter school.
