Mississippi has a new charter school law that establishes a single statewide Charter School Authorizer Board to approve up to 15 charter schools annually.

The state’s governor announced April 17, 2013, the signing of the measure as part of a package of education actions.

The National Charter School Resource Center will host a series of four interactive webinars  designed to provide information critical to the complex task of designing, financing and implementing charter school facilities projects.

A New York City group that developed from an education initiative of Mayor Michael Bloomberg has proposed opening four charter high schools that would collaborate with four new district high schools to serve high-need sections of the city.

The New York State Department of Education accepted letters of intent to apply for charters from ReSolve Charter Schools and invited full applications to open the schools for 2014-2015.

The U.S. Department of Education and the Corporation for National and Community Service are collaborating on a $15 million grant program over three years that will "support the placement of AmeriCorps members in persistently underachieving schools across the country," according to a February 25, 2013 announcement.

A February 2013 report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) focuses on charter schools on military bases and recommends that additional guidance be developed regarding operation of the schools.

The report, which profiles the eight charter schools in seven states that were identified on bases, covers start-up, use of federal grants, preferences for admission, facilities, and base security and access for civilian members of the school community.

A federal judge in Arkansas decided January 17, 2013, that the state’s authorization of charter schools has not violated a 1989 desegregation agreement involving the state and Little Rock and surrounding Pulaski County school districts.
