2012 Promise Neighborhood Grants Include $25 Million Award Involving Charter Schools
The Promise Neighborhoods grant winners announced December 21, 2012, by the U.S. Department of Education include an award totaling about $25 million over five years to a Washington, D.C., project involving charter schools.
The grant to the D.C. Promise Neighborhood Initiative (DCPNI) was one of 17 implementation and planning grants announced by the Department, which started the grant program in 2010. DCPNI, which received a $500,000 planning grant in 2010, is implementing a range of education, health, and family support services focused on two city district elementary schools and the Cesar Chavez Parkside Middle School and High School, which are both charter schools.
