Three Charter Groups Win Total of Nearly $70 Million in RTTT-District Competition

Three charter school organizations won a total of nearly $70 million as part of the U.S. Department of Education’s $400 million Race to the Top-District Competition.

Harmony Public Schools and IDEA Public Schools, both of Texas, were each awarded about $29 million, and KIPP DC in Washington, D.C., was awarded $10 million, according to the Department.

YES Prep Public School of Houston, Texas, was announced as the winner of the inaugural Broad Prize for Public Charter Schools at the 2012 National Charter Schools Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

SKY Partnership Compact

The SKY Partnership Compact is a collaborative partnership among Spring Branch ISD (SBISD), KIPP Houston and YES Prep Public Schools to bridge educational opportunities for children in Houston, Texas. The compact is part of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s multi-year initiative to support the design and implementation of district-charter collaboration.
